Where to go in Vung Tau?

Vũng Tàu is a popular destination for not only tourists but also local residents from surrounding provinces. About 125km away from Saigon, a day trip to Vung Tau is probably the best and the quickest way if you want a few hours to withdraw from the noisy city. Here are some nice places in this port city that you have to visit once you get here.

Vung Tau Cannon Fort

Built in French era, this place was a strategically important fort as you can keep the whole Vung Tau Bay under surveillance from here. Although the high point has withstood many battles since its inauguration, the whole place still steadily stands together as one. The bunkers, most of the concrete along with many fixed breech-loading guns and howitzers are still in their places, some of which even seems untouched.

The location is about 100 meters above the sea level. The road leading to this memorial artillery fort is picturesque but rough and uneven. Therefore, bicycles, motorcycles, and pedestrians are recommended.

Christ the King

Residing on the peak, Christ the King can be seen from almost everywhere in Vung Tau. This statue of Jesus which height is 32 meters may be considered as a small version of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (which height is 38 meters.) Mount Nho was closed for its construction in 1974 and the statue was completed in 1993. The statue itself is not a masterpiece. However, with good positioning, the architects did a good job making a charming point of interest. Inside the sculpture, there are 133 steps which lead you to the balconies on statue’s shoulders. From there, you can observe the whole Vung Tau city.

Take a short trip to the mountain by motorbike is suggested since the road is quite small and steep. Get prepared! You will then have to take a treadmill session to the peak.

It sounds awesome, doesn’t it? So, what are you waiting for? Let’s check the weather forecast and make the dream come true!

Worldwide Arms Museum

Write this name down on your must-visit-places list and you won’t regret it! This is probably the largest private collection of worldwide arms around the world which are owned by a guy whose name is Robert. The museum is arranged tidily and every artifact is annotated and explained thoroughly. Hey, why don’t we spend our vacation in a coastal town and study European medieval history? Tell this to your geek friends, or your partner, they would definitely love it!

Top 5 Beaches of Vung Tau

1/ Bãi Trước: (translate: Front Beach) along Tran Phu St is the most crowded and popular beach of this city. And the name came from this reason, The Front or The Face of the whole city. At day, fishing boats dock nearby along the shore drawing busy trading activities. At nights, shops, restaurants and street vendors light up the whole beach with dazzling bulbs and advertisement signs. Take a stroll to enjoy the winds and browse for interesting souvenirs. Swimming here is not recommended, though.

2/ Bãi Sau: (different names: Thùy Vân, Thùy Dương) this 10-kilometer shore to the South and Southeast of Vung Tau is probably the most famous location for the tourists. Bai Sau is a beautiful long beach with the big shore. Every beach sports and activities that you need can be found right here.

3/ Bãi Dứa: This place is a bit different than its enormous siblings out there. Being small and peaceful but full of rocks and boulders, Bai Dua hides under the big shade of Mount Nho to the west. Not so many people recognize the existence of him. Therefore, he always favors the loveliest strangers who set their feet here with the breathtaking scene and tranquil atmosphere.

4/ Bãi Dâu: To the West and Northwest of Vung Tau is Bai Dau beach, the beach of rocks and trees. In the past, the place was filled with wild strawberries and rattan and that was why local residents came up with the name “Dau”, which means strawberry. Staying here brings you not only serene and tranquil moments but also charming sceneries.
5/ Bãi Thủy Tiên: Located inside the area of resorts. This beach is well managed, clean and not so popular among the tourists since it is just put into use recently. Service and seafood prices of nearby restaurants are also very competitive.
